And that’s what this kind of music is all about. Brian “BG” Gross – Guitar & Vocals
Brian is the bandleader and founder of BG & the Mojo Hands and has, during the last 15+ years, continued to expand the band’s visibility and performance schedule throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

BG & the Mojo Hands BandHis versatile and emotional crowd pleasing guitar playing drives the band and encompasses Chicago, Texas and West Coast blues, swing, jump, rockabilly, and country acoustic delta blues. Brian has been influenced by many artists including Muddy Waters, the “Kings of Blues,” Otis Rush, Magic Sam, Slim Harpo, T -Bone Walker, Elmore James, Robert Johnson and Ronnie Earl.

He was a founding member of the original DC Blues Society Band that performed at the 6th Annual DC Blues Festival at Carter Baron Amphitheater, and has performed or shared the stage with legendary R&R band Link Wray’s Raymen, Dave Alvin & the Guilty Ones, Son Seals, Scott Ainslie, The Smokin’ Polecats, The Cathy Ponton King Band, and Jesse Yawn. He has studied with recording artists Ronnie Earl, Duke Robillard, Paul Rishell and Little Annie Raines.

Brian maintains a busy teaching schedule of private guitar students through his Midnight Blue Guitar Studio, and teaches group guitar classes through the Montgomery County Recreation Department in Potomac and Rockville, MD.

BG at Blues AlleyRoger “Porkchop” Edsall – Harmonica & Vocals
Considered among the top of the list of blues harpists in the mid-Atlantic region, Roger Edsall combines a mix of styles from classic pioneers Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson, as well as everybody’s contemporary guru, Kim Wilson. Having shared the stage and the bill with the likes of Maria Muldaur, the aforementioned Kim Wilson, Kenny Neal, Jimmy Thackery and a host of others, it’s clear that the savvy of veteran musical experience has served Roger well and is clearly displayed on BG & the Mojo Hands’ performances and CDs. Roger also joins Brian as the other half of country acoustic blues duo Delectrified.

Arthur “Silver Spring Slim” Gerstein – Keyboards & Vocals
An entertaining and engaging vocalist/performer, Arthur enhances the band’s sound with a style that includes the 4O’s swing, jump blues and boogie-woogie of Jimmy Liggins, Charles Brown, Roy Milton and Amos Milburn, and the 5O’s R&B of Louis Jordan, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis. This entertaining boogie-woogie, swing and jump blues master hails from The Uptown Rhythm Kings and The J Street Jumpers and also performs with The Nighthawks, Bruce Ewen & the Solid Senders, and Jimmy and the Blue Dogs.

Fred “Brylcreem” Hillyard – Bass
A Washington DC native, Fred is an accomplished freelance, recording, and session musician who is an equally competent drummer. His uncluttered, traditional bass playing approach keeps the groove going strong. Fred has performed with many top regional blues acts including Tough Luck, Bad Influence, Johnny & the Headhunters, Little Ronnie & The Grand Dukes, and Pork Chop & The Top Dogs.

Jimi Jones – Drums & Vocals
Jimi is very comfortable playing any type of groove – shuffles, swing, slow blues, r&b and more. Jimi and Fred combine together as a rock solid rhythm section. Its quite a treat to have a singing drummer, especially one so talented as Jimi.

11/2/17

I have hosted a halloween party in my home for over 40 years. For the past 13 years, we have had dance parties with live bands for people who dance East Coast Swing.

Brian Gross and his All Wheel Jive Band was fantastic this past Sunday evening. They came early, set up and were prepared to play at 4 on the dot.
This was not his usual mix of artists but each and every one of the musicians are professionals and it shows.  I requested a mix of rock and roll, motown, R & B and a smattering of blues, rockabilly etc.  Not too many fast songs. Not too many long songs. Most of the songs were familiar and comfortable with a medium tempo and easy to dance to.  They willingly mixed their normal playlist with a host of special requests from me. There were multiple singers which lent a variety of tones and spark depending on the songs. A few were dressed in costumes to match the guests.
The evening was a delight. Many of the guests commented that this was the best band to play at this party to date!
I would highly recommend them for a party or gathering of any size.
